School Directors’ and Principals’ update to parents- 20th May 2021

Dear Parents,

Following the announcement made by the Prime Minister yesterday stating that all international schools must revert to online learning beginning 1st June, we can now confirm the arrangements for school for the remainder of this academic year. We have attempted to balance the welfare and safety of our community with the need for students to maximize the available time with their teachers and classmates before the 1st June. It is essential that students are able to see their teachers safely and prepare for the final weeks of the school year online. We recognize the importance of children spending some time in school together with their classmates and teachers at the end of what has been a very difficult school year.

With all of this in mind, we are putting the following arrangements in place:

Students will continue to work online on Sunday 23rd and Monday 24th May

On Tuesday 25th, Wednesday 26th , Thursday 27th, Sunday 30th and Monday 31st May, students will be taught face to face on campus.

From Tuesday 1st June until Thursday 24th June all students will be taught online.

We also appreciate that some families may wish to keep their child(ren) at home between 25th-31st May. Work will be provided virtually for those students who are unable to attend on campus learning. Live video lessons will not be available on days when on campus learning is in place (25th-31st May) but all lessons will revert to live video lessons from 1st June 2021.

Online learning will continue until the 24th June 2021 and further details about end of year assessments for secondary/middle/high school students will be sent to parents and students next week.

Finally, we are again asking staff and parents to continue to be vigilant about possible Covid-19 symptoms and to avoid social gatherings.  Please let us know immediately if Covid-19 is in your household via the school doctors (Dr Nevine nelbaroudy@alsson.com and Dr Sally sgouda@alsson.com). All previous safety and social distancing measures and expectations remain in place on campus.

We thank parents for their continued understanding and cooperation during these difficult times as we end this school year and plan for more stable and certain times in the new school year.

Kind Regards

School Directors and Principals message to parents- 16th May 2021

School will be on-line this week (17th-20th May 2021).

Dear Parents,

We have not received any new instructions from the government regarding opening the school, so we are relying on our own experience and the advice of medical professionals regarding the best policy to follow this week. We have made a decision that a week on-line would be both sensible and prudent. We have taken this decision with the health and safety of our community at the forefront of our planning and decision making.

Our reasons are as follows:

  1. We have previously found that after a holiday the number of cases increase and we find ourselves daily having to close classes and year groups, let alone dealing with high absenteeism amongst our teachers who may have COVID or are having to quarantine.
  2. Many of our parents are doctors and they are all concerned, along with the government, that the number of COVID cases in the country is rising again. Their advice is to take more time and take a controlled break as many families have been away for the EID. If anyone has been exposed during the holiday the symptoms will develop during this week and so it is better to keep the school closed and teach on-line.

The school will be open for administration and teaching staff as normal during this week. Thereafter from Sunday 23rd May we hope we can return to the 3-day, 2-day, in-school and on-line pattern that was working well before the holiday. We will advise you on Thursday 20th May.

A special note regarding exams:  students who have scheduled exams in both the senior British School (IGCSE, AS and A Levels) and American School (AP) will attend campus as planned for these exams. Similarly, students in Grade 9/Year 10 will also receive information later today regarding the processes for Addedeya exam papers.

Finally, we are asking staff and parents to continue to be vigilant about possible Covid-19 symptoms and look to avoid social gatherings.  Please let us know immediately if Covid-19 is in your household via the school doctors (Dr Nevine nelbaroudy@alsson.com as Dr Sally sgouda@alsson.com is unavailable until 20th May).

Kind Regards
